Y10 York Visit

Philosophy and ethics visit places of worship in York (Whole School - 07/12/2017)

We have just returned from a fantastic visit to York. Y10 philosophy and ethics students visited York Minster on 6th December. We were welcomed at their Holy Communion service at 12:30 and then had a really informative tour from Jeremy and Timo about the Minster and it’s history. We also visited the York Christmas market among other shops including the new Harry Potter shop! The next day we visited York Central Mosque. We were welcomed by the Iman Adid Salik to their new building. We received a really interesting and thought provoking talk and the students had a great opportunity to ask any questions about Islam and the role of the Mosque in it's local community. It was a great experience for staff and students and we were not only able to look at the places of worship in real life, but we had a chance consider some wider issues, such as religious freedom, tolerance and how different faiths can work together to improve communities. I look forward to running this visit again next year.
