Holocaust Memorial Day

Today we had the privilege of listening to a live webcast from Susan Pollock MBE. Some Y11 GCSE and Y12 students watched this webcast as part of the Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations. Holocaust memorial day is on Monday 27th January. It was an inspiring talk from an amazing lady who has dedicated the last 30 years of her life to sharing her testimony. Susan, originally form Hungary, was taken form her home to Auschwitz-Birkenau, then to a labour camp in Germany, before finally being forced on a death march to Bergen Belsen, where she was liberated by a British soldier. It was a long road to recovery but Susan now lives in London and has three children and six grandchildren. Her message today was clear. Susan compelled us to "stand together" against any form of racism and spoke of us all having a responsibility to challenge persecution and stand up for our rights. Susan also encouraged her listeners to learn more about the Holocaust which GCSE and A level students will have the opportunity to do in July when we visit Auschwitz. There is still space on this trip if anyone is interested. Please see Miss Heathcote or Mrs Inglis if you would like more information.
