Weekly Parent BulletinWeek of 23 June (Week A)

~ 23rd June 2025 ~

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our Weekly Parent Bulletin. Please see below for our weekly update of all things NFS. You will find some lovely success stories and a few useful updates.

Today we said goodbye to all our Year 11 (Leavers' Day). They had a wonderful assembly with Mr Baines, Miss Leivars, their tutors and teachers. It was a celebration packed with happy memories. Thanks to all these staff for their wonderful care and support. We hope all the Year 11 students have a lovely summer and look forward to seeing them on Results Day in August.

Thanks as always for your continued support of our school.

Yours faithfully,

Dr J Simpson

There will be drama performances from our KS4 drama students for you to attend too, as well as some music performances.

As usual we will also be running a refreshments stall to raise money for our Art department so any donations of cakes for the evening would be very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Attendance

At Nottingham free school we do everything possible to facilitate regular attendance at school. As a parent/carer it is your responsibility to ensure that any child of compulsory school age attends school both regularly and on time. Our attendance strategy this year has focussed on working in partnership with parents to secure the best possible attendance that we can for all of our students. Consequently, our attendance rates are consistently well above the national average.

Since returning from half term, attendance has not been meeting our usual expectations of 'attending everyday'.

Following the publication of last year’s GCSE results, Mrs Farnie (Deputy Head for Achievement) analysed the relationship between our students’ attendance and the grades they achieved. The results are a good indicator of the impact that attendance can have on achievement. Compared to students with attendance of 95% or more. NFS students with attendance

•below 95% (10 days absence) achieved roughly 1 grade lower

•below 90% (19 days absence) achieved roughly 2 grades lower

•below 80% (38 days absence) achieved roughly 3 grades lower

Attendance in school is the number one priority if students are to achieve their full potential. Put simply, students cannot learn if they are not in school.  Please ensure that your child is in school so that they do not miss learning opportunities and are fully prepared for the next academic year. .  Missing school increases anxiety for children on the premise of how are they going to catch up.

Please send your chid into school even if they are not feeling 100% and we will monitor them when they are in school.

Safeguarding

Have you seen any examples of AI-generated content (e.g. fake messages or images) being used to target children? If so, how can you respond — and what should do next?”

  • When AI-generated content is used to target children, please do the following:
  • Treat it seriously – listen and evaluate what has been generated.
  • Report– contact your child's head of year to make them aware and report it via the platform used
  • Investigate intent – school will investigate the incident and how NFS students are involved.
