Mindfulness Week

With assessment week looming (11th January 2016), we are very much aware of how much stress and anxiety this causes for some of our students.  Therefore, we felt that it was important that students were provided with a series of activities which they could use to cope with stress and anxiety not just for the assessment week but something which they could use in everyday life.

Students took part in food tasting which allowed them to focus on concentration on small things, meditation which showed them how to breathe in a relaxing way, yoga to focus on their physical body and listening to calming to music.  Students showed excellent interest in the activities and would be prepared to use the techniques at different points.

We are planning to continue the mindfulness theme, once a week using a website called 'smiling minds - mindfulness in education'  It is an Australian website which has proven success in Australia and are looking for schools to introduce this concept.  I have attached a link for parents to have a look at the videos we will be using and it would be great if you discussed this with your child at some point.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLp3vpYbUmIqfFkalwWK1jbcearpKKpL8F&v=eHjYmfvJK5Q

We have also been using a website 'time to change' which is funded by the Department for Health and is currently being advertised as a supportive website to use for mindfulness and mental health.
